Cloaked Treasure

Another year of hunts is in progress for Cloaked Treasure! In 2025, approximately $30,000 was hidden throughout Michigan for searchers to claim! This year numerous smaller hunts (both BOTG and Armchair) and then a main hunt valued at around $5000 in treasure is on the schedule! Sure to be a blast…

3 Clue Ideas You Might Have Missed:

There’s Treasure Inside: Lion’s Share Box

1)Heart / People Image on page 188 - Is this another clue to ‘Geographic Center’? If taken as a ‘rebus like puzzle’ - it could be interpreted as ‘heart of the people’ or center of the US (More here) (JCB said the illustrations are helpful)

2)The painting on page 179 is Apotheosis of Hercules. Of all the paintings JCB could have chosen - he chose this one. While it may hint to Washington state thru it’s Mount Olympus connection… I can’t help think about the 12 Labors of Hercules. 12 being the significance and a possible more subtle clue to North Carolina (12th state admitted into union).

Of course neither of those states is South Dakota - ha! But something to keep in mind…along with…..

3)Cardinal - In chapter 19, Cardinal is mentioned a bit oddly (cardinal moon / page 166). The Cardinal is the state bird for North Carolina ….so maybe that is a clue? And it’s interesting the various MILK mentions - that is North Carolina’s state beverage.

I continue to keep an open mind on options for the Lion’s Share box…… !

Shipwreck Treasure Box - SOLVED!

The Shipwreck treasure box released by NorthTexasHunts has been solved.

In an upcoming Six Questions with both Finders and Creator - we will learn more!

Lots of discussion is happening on the MW Discord. A few puzzle solutions have been shared. Below is a look at the solution to one of the pages from the hunt.

Puzzle Paths:

The words ‘Magic’ and ‘Square’ hinted to the idea this was a famous Magic Square - The Durer Magic Square was found to be the one - confirmed by its background.

Placing the letters - into the square where the numbers appear - would reveal a message: SKIP HIKE FOREST RD

(numbers would continue on the bottom 1 thru 16 indicating what letters = what numbers)

Searchers of the puzzle would then know to take the Forest Road instead of hiking that extra distance! Love the clue!

Once a month I’ll post a puzzle path here for all. It’ll be a stroll onto a hunt’s puzzle path - and how it was solved.

Every Tuesday, however, I take a deeper dive into puzzles and their solutions - like the above. Learning how past hunts (and their puzzles) are solved is one of the best ways to learn how to solve current hunts.

There’s Treasure Inside

AT Treasure Box Clue

McAfee Knob is often thought to be seen on the Map for the Appalachian Footpath treasure box. This is in Virginia along the AT.

The dashed path on the map is thought to be in Vermont.

I would often question how these might work together. One in Vermont - One in Virginia.

I think I have my answer - it may not be yours - but it is mine (as of this writing :))

I explain it on Video here - and posted it on the MW website. In brief, the thought is that since there is also seen a ‘face outline’ within the outline of McAfee Knob on the map - the two work together for a rebus like puzzle.

The map is turned to get the correct orientation for both the matched trail and McAfee Knob (shown above). Doing this, the face is then ‘LOOKING’ Northeast.

McAfee Knob is in VA….. the face looking Northeast – from McAfee Knob- could be hinting that the treasure is hidden Northeast of McAfee Knob on the AT.

Searcher Media Spotlight - Traveler - YouTube Channel

There are so many great new YouTube Channels - featuring searchers who are active on the hunts. ‘Traveler’ - a husband/wife team - began sharing thoughts on the Lion’s Share Box.

In this first episode they talk about that strange little mark next to the AI Heart (page 188). What is it? Sure it could be a printing error of some sort - but they share some other thoughts - It could be a clue - and so could the heart! I like it a lot!

A recent email sent out by Quill & Compass hinted at some surprises ahead!

Their current hunt - ROOM 52 - remains unsolved. Treasure of around $1000 unclaimed. BUT…. it seems more is coming… stay tuned!

The cipher in Justin Posey’s treasure hunt - Beyond the Map’s Edge - has been solved!

This is only a nod to the container. MAGYAR is the solution - which is a nod to TUCKER - Justin’s dog (because Tucker is a Magyar/Hungarian Vizsla)

However, the cipher reveal provides a glance into Justin’s mind. Any time we get this - it can help!

CIPHER SOLVED - ESTE’S QUEST

The clock was divided into sections of letters. Then the various clock times seen in Netflix were used to indicate those sections and which letter within to apply.

The hour time indicated which X group of letters - and then the minute indicated which specific letter within that X Grouping.

For example, 12 indicated the first group of ABCD. The minute hand of 3 and 4 (12:03, 12:04) indicated the first letter in that hour grouping.

Another example: 1:33 indicated the grouping of letters applied to the 1 hour. 33 indicated the G - since 33 indicated to take the 3rd letter within that grouping.

The chart above shows how Minutes of 00-14 indicated 1st letter, 15-29 second letter, 30-44 third, and 45-59 fourth letter in the X to take. So again Hour indicated which X grouping - and the minute indicated which letter within that X grouping.

It’s nice to know the Cipher has been solved! But what can we learn from it? More thoughts on all this later in the week!

Also thoughts on how AI might help us solve it now - this in reference to the Q/A:

Q: What is something about the treasure that you haven’t mentioned yet that you’ve thought maybe you should mention? (Paraphrased)

Justin Answers: I haven’t identified what the container is that the treasure is hidden inside. Mainly because I think it would give AI an edge as time goes on, and that’s something I’m trying to avoid, at its core making this a human adventure, which is a bit paradoxical if you think about it. But at this point, I’m just not quite ready to do that.

I posted a video sharing more thoughts about Q/A’s connected to AI and the Container. Things Justin has commented on - it’s quite interesting!

There’s Treasure Inside - AT BOX

Recently I compiled a list of location theories for the Appalachian Footpath Box. Lots of great ideas being tossed around in the community for multiple states.

The question is then how do you narrow it down?

One of the things I continue to go back on is Jon’s comment in the MW Six Questions More about the AT BOX solution:

“….Another way takes you to a slightly larger search area, but one you will have full confidence in.”

To have ‘full confidence’ suggests something is given as solid fact. The matched trail on the map is beyond doubt to me. Not as a clue to use - because that would then be interpretational.

I don’t think clues that rely on interpretation can give ‘full confidence’. What do you think?

Another Topic Discussion:

40 miles is mentioned in chapter 3- as well as LA and North Carolina. Could this be a hint to Route 40? It runs from LA to NC. What do you think?

Beyond the Map’s Edge

What were the questions Justin Posey punted on during the Q/A at Seekers Summit? Let’s take a look at 3. (Others posted here)

Q) If someone locates the checkpoint, is it still available for others to find or is it something that can be taken and no one else can find?

A)Yeah, I’m going to punt on that one.

• Commentary: What THE? Why didn’t he say ‘no’ it can’t be taken? Does this mean it can? or that it can be ‘disturbed’ in some way that it really is for only the first discoverer?

Q)Is the cipher contained in a single section of the book or across multiple sections?

A)Who says the cipher is in the book?

Commentary: Not an official punt but an answer in form of a question. The cipher (as of this writing) remains publicly unsolved - even though Justin eliminated the times 4:02 and 5:26. But this answer seems to suggest the times are not applied to the book, and we know it’s not applied to the Treasure Poem either (which is on his website (and in the book…but…yeah not in the poem). So where is it applied? And how?

Q) Is double arcs on granite bold the clue with the man-made implication?

A)Uh, punt. Yeah.

Commentary: He punted on this but yet answered NO to the ‘hole’ having the man-made implication. That makes it seem the double arcs could be the man-made implication which connects to another question I mentioned in this video.

MW Side Trails! Coming Back!

As mentioned, MW is a map - where every hunt is a trail. I have created ‘field guides’ for most hunts to help searchers get going - so no one needs to feel lost. On the Treasure Hunts list - click on ‘More Information’ (or Field Guide for each)

Besides treasure hunts, however, there are Side Trails. This is where we go off the trails and explore other mysteries of the world.

I’ve done this in the past - and am returning to doing more of these!

Here is a previous Side Trail: A look at the Poe Museum, it’s Treasure, and the search for a treasure to solve a mystery. In that Six Questions I chatted with the Chris Semtner - the curator of the museum at the time.

It’s great to take Side Trails! They are treasures too. Message me if you have a Side Trail you want to explore more (any mystery of the world).

There’s Treasure Inside

None of the treasure boxes have been announced found! All 5 remain yet to discover. I have a Hub Page for There’s Treasure Inside on the MW Website of which I’m constantly adding to. Currently, I’m creating pages for each box with their top location theories.

I’ve started with the Lion’s Share Box with sharing 3 clues leading to 5 different states. I’ll be diving more into each.

I like the Washington and South Dakota state theories a lot for this box - but I’m beginning to like North Carolina from some recent thoughts I’ve had.

I mentioned the text on the top of page 119 - where the numbers 50 and 12 are used. This possibly linking to 50 states with 12 being North Carolina - since it was the 12th state admitted into the union.

I was then reminded of something Jon said in an interview. He was asked about the illustrations and if he thought somebody could find the treasure with just the text alone - Jon said,

“Good question. I don’t know. It would be harder for sure. It would be difficult, but maybe not impossible. Yeah, it’ll be hard.”

This confirms that at least some of images hold clues - in some way.

I considered page 128 and its image (shown above). The trees are on fire - in the mountains. Could that be a hint to the Smoky Mountains? This connecting to page 119 then - since they run through NC.

Sure, the image could mean a lot of things - or nothing but what it is. But it makes me wonder - and I’ll keep it as an option.

Beyond the Map’s Edge - Checkpoint

What’s known about the checkpoint? What Q/A’s at Seekers Summit might have related to it? Here are two (actually 3) that struck me most.

• Q) Is the checkpoint location visible in gold and greed?

• A)No. Not specifically. No.

Why ‘not specifically’? This sounds to me as if the checkpoint itself is not specifically visible - but the general or wider location for where it is to be found- could be.

Then there were these questions - which to me might relate to each other:

• Q) Is double arcs on granite bold the clue with the man-made implication?

• A)Uh, punt. - BUT NOTE: he didn’t punt on answering if the Hole was – that was a ‘No’)

• Q)Is the something we find along - the way something you place there or something that was already there?

• A)both

For me, because he punted on answering if the ‘double arcs on granite bold’ have a man-made implication - and because he answered it for ‘Hole’ - then the double arcs on granite bold might be the man-made implication.

Taken with his answer that the something we find is ‘both’ (he placed there and was already there) sounds like he could have made ‘double arcs’ on a rock.

National Coin Week

National Coin Week kicks off Sunday - April 19th to 25th. It will feature a mix of educational programs, coin shows, and special scavenger hunts, with one notable hunt in San Francisco.

Witter Coin/Seth Chandler will release clues to their annual San Fran Scavenger Hunt on their Instagram Page. A hunt for $50,000 in coins - including the one shown below valued at about 25K will be hidden across the area. Hunt starts April 25th!

Featured: Upcoming Hunt!

North Texas Treasure is releasing a new hunt soon! Their debut, The Shipwreck Box, launches April 30, 2026, and contains roughly $1,200 in historically significant items.

Hunters can purchase a 12-page clue book blending poems, ciphers, puzzles, history, and pop culture on their website. The box is hidden on public land, not buried, and designed to be found within weeks - not years. Up to four hunts are planned per year.

BOTG is required - North Texas area. Six Questions coming soon!

Media Spotlight - JumpingOffPoint

JumpingOffPoint YT channel presented 3 different options on how searchers for There’s Treasure Inside might use the poem, ‘Joy’s Serenade’, in the back of the book.

The various options get you thinking about ideas you might not have considered. It’s a great exercise.

How do you feel Joy’s Serenade is used? As directions for the end game, a map through the book, hiding a message via a code, or something else? - JOP explains the options in more detail: Have a watch!

Beyond the Map’s Edge

Hints to ‘His Bride’:

I recently posted what we are learning about the ‘BRIDE’ in Justin Posey’s treasure hunt - Beyond the Map’s Edge. Each new tidbit helps us narrow in on what this might be - and it also helps us gain confidence to our own solutions for ‘his bride’.

The 75 Miles Comment:

Also - one of the most surprising comments from Justin at Seekers Summit was his answer saying his treasure is hidden within 75 miles of where he had once searched for the Forrest Fenn treasure.

Although he backtracked on the ‘rocky mountains’ bit - it would be difficult to suggest he searched below the 75 miles of Santa Fe. Forrest Fenn’s treasure was ALWAYS to the north of Santa Fe.

Seven Paces: A Fortune Lies within Vermont

Recently, Matt from Seven Paces chatted with X Marks the Pod! He mentions the treasure for ‘A Fortune Lies within Vermont’ remains unsolved. The $2500 cash treasure yet to claim.

He may have provided a clue or two for where that treasure can be found. He says around min. mark 14:20:

“…we hiked up a different mountain, than where we thought it was, and in a different area and we hid it there.”

It’s nearby - to where many think the Appalachian Footpath box is in Vermont. Clues to exactly discover the location are in the book - which is available on Amazon.

Seven Paces mentioned they are planning on releasing a new hunt for $50,000 sometime around August 2026. This is exciting! Stay tuned!

Media Spotlight - There’s Treasure Inside

In a recent video, Habeas Treasurus shared thoughts about how Kobe Bryant might be hinted to in chapter 13 - the MJ basketball chapter. I’m always amazed at the connections he finds - it’s incredible.

During that video he brought up the passage - on top of page 119:

“Fifty boys showed up that day. Only twelve of us would make a team.”

What hit me, a bit differently than for him on that passage, was the possibility that 50 could hint to the United States - and 12 hinting to North Carolina. Since it was the 12th state admitted into the union.

Could the LS box be hidden in North Carolina? Maybe! The 50 - 12 passage might be a hint for that option!

Reverse Six Questions

Erik of One Clue Short of A Treasure held a ‘Reverse Six Questions’ with me on his channel. It was my first step into that phase of treasure sharing. I plan to do a lot more of it.

For years, I was unable to do any ‘live recording’ like that. My husband and I live on 100 acres next to the state game lands in rural PA. Internet is difficult.

StarLink however has opened that door for us now - and we’ll be stepping through. So have patience as I grow comfortable with it - and expand my map’s edge.

The search area for a treasure hidden ‘somewhere in the American West’ just got a lot smaller!

Beyond the Map’s Edge by Justin Posey was released on March 27, 2025, in connection to the Netflix Documentary Gold & Greed. Clues to find the million-dollar treasure are in a poem. This poem is found on the hunt’s website or in the book - Beyond the Map’s Edge (available on Amazon).

The book, Netflix doc, and map also hold clues to help with understanding the poem. As of this writing, searchers have been unable to find this treasure.

But at a recent event, Justin Posey, after intentionally eliminating the states: Colorado and Oregon, may have also unintentionally eliminated other search areas! Here’s why.

In a Question / Answer session on March 28, 2026 - Justin was asked:

Q) Is the location where you hid your treasure within 75 miles of a place where you searched for the Forrest Fenn chest?

A) I searched a lot of places, guys. Uh, so yeah, I mean it’s true to say that at some point I had searched for the Fenn treasure within that 75 mile radius. Yeah.

He later wanted to clarify (possibly realizing he unintentionally eliminated large sections of the search area)

Uh, and I also want to make sure that people understand the answer that I gave in the prior question because when I first heard about the Fenn treasure, I had a question for Forest in terms of he said it was hidden in the Rocky Mountains. And my question was, is it any Rocky Mountain or is it the official Rocky Mountains? And so that led me down a whole other rabbit hole and thinking that my gosh, it might not actually be in the Rocky Mountains.

So I guess what I’m saying is I don’t want someone to get the impression that necessarily I’ve, you know, eliminated a bunch of states or something like that. So yeah.

All good. However, Forrest Fenn’s treasure was always ‘Somewhere in the mountains North of Santa Fe’.

Justin is a smart guy – while debate may still arise whether it’s the Rocky Mountains or any mountains with rocks as he said – they still have to be north of Santa Fe.

Anything below 75 miles south of Santa Fe is now eliminated with his answer. That includes locations mentioned in the book – Tucson, AZ and Cloudcroft, NM, for example.

There were searchers looking for the treasure in that area. And when he eliminated the states - Oregon and Colorado - they were still in play. However, after that Q/A - not anymore.

In 2013, Forrest released a map which defined the search area for his treasure even further. It only included the four states: Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

It is true Justin searched areas beyond these 4 states in the beginning, as Forrest Fenn’s search area did expand out from the above map. But many searchers now suspect the treasure is within 75 miles of a place on the above FF map.

Time will tell. And that time may be sooner than later.

Justin Posey LayerV Bounty Hunt

Justin Posey created the treasure hunt for the LayerV Bounty of $10,000 at Seekers Summit 2026. For those that weren’t there I wanted to share a quick summary of the hunt.

Although Justin was limited on how to create, and it may not be exactly what he wished to do (because of required rules/time) - it still may offer insight into his mind and how he thinks. This in turn helping to understand his poem.

NEW CLUE: Newton Falls Treasure Hunt

Every other Tuesday a clue for the Newton Falls Treasure Hunt is posted - until all 10 have been released. This past Tuesday the 3rd clue was posted on the Fieldview Acres Merc Hunt’s FB page.
