Beyond the Map’s Edge Treasure Hunt by Justin Posey launched at the end of March, in connection with the release of the Netflix Documentary Gold & Greed.
It is now over two months into the hunt - and the hunt is going strong! There has been a lot happening. Let’s give a quick recap!

Beyond the Map’s Edge Treasure Books
Not only is there a hard copy book - but now there is a Digital and Audio book of Beyond the Map’s Edge available as well on the website!
This is interesting. In one of the interviews, Justin mentioned he wasn’t originally thinking of releasing a book. However, he realized he wouldn’t have complete control of all the clues placed in the Netflix Documentary, so he decided to write a book. And then with demand he provided different formats.
Each format has intentional differences. In a later newsletter I’ll go more into depth on those. (I’ve shared a possible clue in the digital version - and a clue in the audio with the checkpoint being BOTG already - but will provide a list of all those noticed soon)
With the books, the Bitcoin portion of the treasure prize grows as sales increase. This would include all versions. You can see the current Bitcoin amount here. (As of this writing, it is around $10,000)
Justin Posey Interviews and Comments
Justin has chatted with several media outlets and continues to be active on X and Meta since the release of his book and Netflix.
In interviews he has answered many questions and offered clarifications on items regarding the hunt.
All of these (or specific links to the conversations) Justin has noted on his website. He feels it is important to keep information on the hunt in one spot. Many of the highlights I have listed here: Beyond the Map’s Edge Facts Known. It continually gets updated.
Where are the Clues to Justin’s Hidden Treasure
The Poem: The key clues to find the hidden treasure are in the poem. However, Justin mentioned in MW’s Six Questions that the book definitely helps with those clues:
“Someone technically might be able to crack the poem in isolation…much like how my friend claims he can identify any wine while blindfolded, despite once confidently declaring a bottle of Welch’s grape juice to be “an insolent little Bordeaux with notes of pretension.”
Netflix: Justin has said there are ‘some really good hints’ in the Netflix Documentary Gold & Greed.
Book: Additional insights and clues are in the book. The differences in each version might highlight certain hints, clarify, or give new hints.
Map: Justin says, ‘The Map is useful’. It is in the book and on his website.
Website: The poem is given freely on the website, and other needed information to find the treasure is listed on the site. But is there something ‘hidden’ on there?
Most Popular Theory for the Treasure Location (as of now)
The most popular search location seems to be Southwest Montana.
The surrounding areas of the Big Hole River Valley are a hot spot for searchers. Justin recognizes this as well - since he decided to schedule a book signing in Dillon, MT.
Not only the words in the poem, like Wisdom and Hole, but stories in the book, seem to hint to that area.
However, it needs to be said, that doesn’t make it a confirmed location. I suppose we should remember - Forrest did book signings in New Mexico yet his treasure was found in Wyoming.
