In The Beyond the Map’s Edge treasure hunt – Justin has said ‘the map is useful’ and that somewhere on the map his treasure is hidden.
I think one possible clue on the map is that the number 42 is given on the Alaska portion of The Beyond the Map’s Edge map.
There are 9 mountain peaks with elevations given on that portion of the map.
They are listed as follows:
Mt. Denali – Highest Peak (20,194 ft)
Mt Marcus Baker (13176 ft)
Redoubt Volcano (10,197 ft)
Mt Chamberlain (8901 ft)
Mt Oyukak (6909 ft)
Mt Tozi (5360 ft)
Mt Osborn (4714 ft)
Mt Siniatanneyenak (4524ft)
Mt. Crooked (4429 ft)
In a previous video, I shared how 42 seems like a definite clue. 42 is seen written in dust on the truck’s taillight and is the time - 4:02 -Justin changed the large clock to in the Netflix Documentary.
42 could also be why Justin switched Idaho to Utah in the story of The Concrete Kiss. Their boundary is the 42 latitude. In the hardcover the ‘big hill’ is in Idaho. In the audiobook it is changed to Utah.

Note BIG HILL! A clue – and I believe a connection - to using Peaks (big hills) in Alaska to find 42.
Going from lowest to highest – and not counting Mt. Denali – because all states had the highest peaks shown on the map – (EXCEPT one - Mt. Whitney for California. Mt. Shasta is instead given on the map. This may be another clue with meaning yet to discern. More on that another time!)
But going from lowest to highest – is 42. Clearly seen.
So what’s with 42?
One reason I’ve considered is that since 42 is given in rising order of the Alaska Peaks– I feel it could be suggesting that the treasure is hidden above the 42-latitude line.
However, I counted the images and illustrations in the book - and the 42nd image shows Justin Fishing. This is on page 98.
Is this the real clue - the possible fishing hole?
Maybe!
It’s becoming more convincing that 42 is a clue – but what is its meaning?
