Weekly Treasure Recap! 4/18/25
Beyond the Map’s Edge treasure hunt by Justin Posey has only been out for a few weeks - but much like There’s Treasure Inside by Jon Collins-Black - searchers are out there with BOTG. Clues are being followed!

Beyond the Map’s Edge
Lots of different ideas are being tossed around. Wisdom, Montana continues to be a hot spot. Is the following yet another clue for Wisdom?
Justin stated there are intentional differences between the digital book with the hard cover book. He said they might offer some insights.
In looking at each - one of the first things I noticed was the hard copy of the book contained two more images - not seen in the digital version. They are page 4 and page 117.
Why did Justin choose not to include these particular images in the digital version? And what might the insight be? One thought I have is the ‘difference’ between the two images is 113 (117-4).
Wisdom, Montana happens to be on the 113 longitude line. Is this yet another clue to Wisdom, Montana? Or is it a coincidence? What do you think?
Other items - facts, clues, and theories are being continually updated on MW’s website dedicated page to the hunt. Lot’s happening!
There’s Treasure Inside
None of the 5 treasure boxes have been announced found. Searchers continue to analyze pages of the book for clues - and in case you missed it - here is an important note.
On page 49 is an image of Rob Lavinsky holding ‘The Flame’ (shown above). Although this particular item is NOT part of the treasure hoard of JCB’s, Rob had helped him acquire other items for the treasure boxes.
In the caption of the image in the book it says ‘The Flame’ is from the Red Ridge Mine - however this is incorrect. It is from the RED LEDGE mine - in Washington California. Relatively close to Lake Tahoe.
While Part one of the book (and everywhere else) is to hold clues to the Lion’s Share treasure box - it’s an interesting ‘mistake’ - if that is what it is. Maybe it’s a clue. Washington (George) is talked about in part one too - maybe there is a connection to make.
Maybe the Lion’s Share box is hidden somewhere in the vicinity? More clues need found for this theory to become more solid. Time will tell.
Este’s Quest #3
The gold coin remains to be found! One week ago today Este’s Quest #3 launched - clues are being released each day. This hunt is to be over by 5/10 - or before. The coin is hidden somewhere in the states: WV, VA, MA, PA, or DE. More information here.
Masquerade Tribute 2025
Monday 4/21 marks the one-month mark for the release of the 5th Annual Masquerade Tribute of Hunts for Charity. 5 Mini Hunts were unlocked - and released. The Main Hunt, along with Mini Hunt 3, 4, and 5 remain unsolved.
Over $1200 value in treasures wait to be claimed. The cash bounty for Old Jack Hare & Frog is at $738 - with $1873.11 being raised for the National Park Foundation. Still time to join the adventures. (Information here)
Veil Hunt #1: SOLVED
Congrats to PopeMothballs (username on the MW Discord) who found Veil Hunt #1’s proxy in Watchung Reservation in New Jersey! This hunt launched on March 27th with the proxy being found on April 11th!
Clues were given via a shrinking circle and other cryptic methods. The cash prize of $3980 was successfully claimed. Well done all around!
THE QUEST Puzzle Answer
Congrats to Stacy A - and then runner up - Dan T - who will receive the MW Medallion. Stacy decided to pay it forward since international shipping can be an issue at times.
Below find April’s Puzzle - which encodes a two-word message
The puzzle’s newsletter covered Semaphore ciphers (mentioned in Beyond the Map’s Edge treasure hunt book) and how it was also used to help solve Originovel’s 12TH Plate treasure hunt in 2017 - for an American Eagle Gold Coin.
From that I decided to use Semaphore as the method to encode the words in April’s Puzzle.
Anytime you see two lines going various ways in a puzzle it might be worth a look at semaphore flags. They can represent letters.
Using the above key, the medium blue colored hexagons- each with two lines - spelled out HIDDEN SECRET! Although I made the lines quite obvious - they might not be in actual treasure hunts. Be on the lookout for them.
Each Tuesday I dive into a puzzle from a past treasure hunt - it’s a great way to learn how to solve present day treasure hunts.
This last Tuesday was also the 15th - which on the 15th of every month I also release a puzzle to solve for practice. The first person to send in a correct submission to the puzzle receives a MW Treasure Medallion. Thanks again for those participating!
